Why Your Stress Feels Like It’s Never Ending (And How to Break Free)

Ever feel like life is just one thing after another? Like no matter how hard you try, things keep spiraling out of control? Maybe you’re facing an endless barrage of challenges, frustrations, and roadblocks. You catch yourself thinking:

  • “Why is this happening to me?”
  • “It's just one thing after another.”
  • “I can’t catch a break.”

But what if this isn’t random? What if it’s not just life throwing curveballs at you, but a targeted attack?

What if everything happening around you—the chaos, the frustrations, the overwhelming stress—was meant to distract you, derail you, and steal your peace?

It’s Not Random. It’s an Attack.

C.S. Lewis, a man who knew pain and suffering firsthand, figured this out. After losing his wife, Joy, to cancer and living through the trauma of WWII, Lewis wrote The Screwtape Letters. In this brilliant work, he describes how demons subtly work behind the scenes to keep you from recognizing the true battle at hand.

Here’s the kicker: The enemy isn’t usually trying to destroy you with major, obvious catastrophes. Instead, he gets you bogged down with the mundane, the seemingly random, and the distractions that keep you from seeing the bigger spiritual battle you’re in.

The Enemy’s Tactics:

  • He makes it feel random.
He doesn’t need dramatic disasters to derail you. He just needs to make you think everything is a random series of unfortunate events.

  • He uses chaos to distract.
The frustrations, the unexpected obstacles, the things that pile up—these are not just “bad days.” They’re distractions designed to pull your focus from your purpose.

  • He keeps you in confusion.
The chaos blinds you to the bigger truth: you’re in a spiritual battle. Your stress is not an isolated incident; it’s part of a plan to overwhelm you and keep you from walking in your full potential.

Once You See It, Everything Changes

When Lewis had this realization about the true nature of his suffering, it was a game-changer. He didn't just have to lay down and take it.  He understood that his pain wasn’t just the result of life’s randomness—it was part of the bigger spiritual war.

You’re facing this same kind of battle every single day.

How to Fight Back:

Once you recognize the attack, you can begin to fight back in a whole new way. Here’s how:

  • Recognize the enemy:
Every challenge you face isn’t just a “bad break.” It’s likely part of a bigger spiritual battle. Stop seeing your struggles as random. Ask yourself, “Is this from God?” If you know it's not, then you know who it is from. (James 1:17 & John 10:10)

  • Speak victory over your stress:
The enemy wants you to feel powerless, but you’ve been given authority. Start speaking truth and life over your situation—words of peace, victory, and breakthrough. (Romans 4:17 & 2 Cor 4:13)

  • Speak to the situation and rebuke the enemy:
Instead of reacting with anxiety, stop and straighten your crown and respond from authority. Jesus spoke to the fig tree, the storm, the sick or dead body.   Speak to your situation.  Tell the enemy to leave in the name of Jesus. (Mark 11:22-24 & Mark 9:25)

Key Takeaways:

  • Your stress is not random. The challenges you face aren’t the result of random, unavoidable circumstances; they’re part of a bigger plan designed to derail you.
  • It’s Not a Coincidence; It’s a Strategy – What you’re experiencing isn’t an accident. There’s a strategic effort to keep you off balance and out of focus.
  • Recognizing the attack is half the battle. When you realize what’s really going on, you can respond with confidence, clarity and authority.

You are not just a victim of life. You are equipped to overcome in Christ!
