3 Confessions You Need to Make for a Powerful Life

Confession...what image does that word bring up in your mind?  Going to a priest to tell him all the bad things you have done?  Confessing to the cops that you committed a crime?  Confessing your love?

The Bible gives us three different images for the word confession and they are all essential in our Christian life.  They will each revolutionize your life.  Let's check them out:

1) Confessing Jesus as Lord.  This is what saved you.  Romans 10:10 says "For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved."  What did you confess to get saved?  That you were a sinner?  No, that Jesus is Lord.  Romans 10:9 "because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

When Jesus came He took on the sin of the whole world.  He solved the sin problem.  God is not sending anyone to hell for sinning.  He restored our relationship with HIm by fixing the sin problem and invites us to respond.  The only reason anyone will go to hell is if they don't confess that Jesus is Lord.

2) Confessing your sin.  The Bible also tells us to confess our sins.  1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."  When we sin, it is like shutting the light off in our lives.  It breaks the fellowship we have with God, who is light, which keeps us in the dark.  1 John 1:3-7 "that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.  And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin."

These verses show us a quick and easy way for getting back into fellowship with God when you sin.  You confess the sin, admit you missed it, you screwed up and ask forgiveness.  God immediately forgives you and you are immediately back in His fellowship.  You don't need to now try to earn your way back or make it up to Him.  You don't need to keep confessing the same sin either.  That just shows you don't trust God enough to forgive you the first time you asked.

3) Confessing faith in the Word, Jesus and the Father.  This third kind of confession is just as powerful as the first two in changing your life.  The word translated confession in the New Testament is homologeo.  Homo means the same and logeo means word.  So, if you make a confession, you are saying the same things as another.  You are professing, declaring openly, and agreeing.  

This is what you and I were created to do.  We are to confess or say the same thing as our Creator Father.  We were made in His image.  What He says, we say.  By confessing what God says, we can obtain the promises of God that He's given us in His Word.  

Let's say you tell your child they can have two chocolate chip cookies after they clean their room.  You leave the cookies on the kitchen counter and go about your day fully expecting that after your child is done with their room they will go get their cookies.  But what if when they are done cleaning all they say is, "I just can't understand Mom.  She is so difficult to understand.  You never know what she is going to do.  I wish I could have a cookie, but Mom didn't give me a cookie.  I see the cookies on the counter but I don't know if I can have one. "  You'd be a little upset wouldn't you if you heard they were saying this.  Were they not listening?  Do they not believe you?  You'd be like, "Why didn't you get your cookies?  I told you that you could have a cookie when you are done."  All the child has to do is say the same thing to themselves as you said.  "I finished cleaning my room, so I'm going to get my cookies," and they could have the promise you made them.  Of if Dad stops them, all they have to say is, "Mom said I could have them after I cleaned my room."

The same thing happens with us.  God makes us a promise.  He says, "By Jesus' stripes you are healed.  You can ask anything according to my will and if you believe you receive it when you ask, you can have it."  But we act like the child and say, "God is so difficult to understand.  You never know what God is going to do.  I don't know if I can expect healing or not. "  Instead all we have to do is say, "God, I see in your Word that you said I am healed.  You promise me healing.  I reach out and take this cookie off the plate, this cookie of healing that you offer to me.  I take it, I have it and I thank you for it."  And now you have the promise.  

Confessing the Word of God, or saying the same thing as God, brings the Word to pass in your life.  God tells us in Isaiah 55:11, "so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it."  You are God's mouthpiece on the earth.  He has made us to be priestly kings.  When we decree and declare as royalty God's words, they will surely come to pass.  Jesus, the High Priest of our confession (see Hebrews 3:1) will ensure they do. 

Make these three confessions in your life and you will see powerful, revolutionary changes take place.  You'll experience the peace of God and with God in every crack and crevice of your life!
