“We are victims of a mounting tension; we have difficulty in relaxing. Our high-strung nervous systems are on a perpetual binge. Caught up as we are in a rush all day, every day, and far into the night, we are not living fully. We must remember what Carlyle called ‘the calm supremacy of the spirit over its circumstances.”
Can you imagine seeing this paragraph in your workplace’s monthly newsletter?! This was written by The Royal Bank of Canada to their employees some years ago. I think they were on to something, not only in their statement but also in their name!
We are failing to get out of life the very things we so badly desire from it because of being victims to tension. One definition of a victim is a person who has been tricked or duped. Do you feel tricked? Tricked into thinking you just had to try harder, work more, push further and you could start to enjoy life?
Over-pressing will cause you to miss your mark altogether. It happens in every sport. The person who masters throwing the basketball, swinging the golf club or riding in the saddle with relaxed ease is the one who rises to the top. It’s said that Ty Cobb was beautiful to watch because he flowed and was one with the bat. His relaxed ease could hit the ball further than someone that overpressed and gave it all they got. An "easy does it" attitude does everything more slowly, less hectic, and without pressure and the results release maximum power.
So here are 5 things you could start immediately to tap into a higher power through relaxation:
Create these moments of relaxation where you deliberately draw on God’s power. It’s not the length of the time that produces the power but the quality of the experience.
You are meant to be attached to a continual flow of force that proceeds from God through the individual and back to God for renewal. It reminds me of the flow of blood in our bodies. The heart pumps blood containing new oxygen to every part of your body. At the same time, it pumps the old blood without oxygen back through the lungs where it picks up new oxygen to repeat this cycle. It’s a continual cycle that keeps us alive. The spiritual cycle of spending time with God also filters out our tension, creates an easy does it attitude and sends us back out to the world with maximum power.
